EXPLORE THE LOCAL FORESTS
A short drive from the heart of Wynyard are the French's Road Nature Reserve and Oldina Forest Reserve. Oldina features scenic walks, bbq facilities, toilets and play equipment for the little ones. Experimental forestry crops of poplars, firs and pines re-create the Northern Hemisphere here, 40 degrees South of the equator! 2km from the heart of the reserve begins the Noel Jago Walk, through native Eucalypts, "man" ferns and don't forget to keep a look out for platypus and trout in the stream!
The French's Road Nature Reserve was once a working quarry. Now leased by the Waratah-Wynyard council, the native flora and fauna has returned with abundance. Enjoy a picnic at the central shelter hut, take walks through the dry schorofil forest and watch for the endangered Giant Freshwater Crayfish at home in Seabrook Creek!
